This story was a little slow. Gregor seemed tired/depressed because of old George's death and that low energy permeated the story for me. I kept plodding through and the resolution made sense. I will read the next one in the series.

My problem with this book is that I figured out the major piece of the puzzle - the identity of one of the murder victims - on the last word of Chapter Two, and since I've never read any of this series before, I'm not invested enough in Gregor Demarkian & Co. to be interested in watching him try to figure it out. Which, since I flipped to the end to check that I was right, I learned that he doesn't even do until very close to the end. Color me Not Impressed By This Plot.
Plus, skipping to the end also revealed that one of the early point of view characters was completely unreliable, and the only reason there was a story here was because of the identity plot point that I figured out on page 77, which is when it was finally revealed.
So I'm not going to bother finishing it. If you're curious about what the plot point is that I figured out so easily, read on below:

Spoiler
The victims were a pool guy and, apparently, the woman he was seeing. But while the pool guy was found in the pool, the woman's body was burned beyond recognition in a fire, and the DNA tests came back showing that this second victim was actually a male. Yet the woman is definitely missing! Obviously: she was transsexual. Not obvious to the characters, though. Oh and it was her husband who killed them, and he was the very detailed but unreliable POV I referred to above.
