I was surprised how much I liked this book, given that it is rather slow read and it has a lot of B plots outside of Galen and Lyra. Their chapters were by far my favorites, and I liked that we get to spend most of that time with Lyra and that she's so pivotal to this family's survival. Her loving the Force so much just endeared her to me all the more. As for the other points of view--it took me a second to really get into the Has parts of the book, but I felt like it folded in nicely towards the end, and I don't know how else we could have gotten the effect without all of his earlier chapters. I also love the Tarkin v. Krennic infighting. It just delights me how petty these two characters are and how much they hate each other.

I think what I liked most about this book is that it shows the way that good intentions can often be manipulated by bad actors. Galen joins with the Empire with the thought that his research would be used only for peace, compromises his ethics and moral stances for the thought of peace and glory Krennic promises, and it takes the grounding of his family for him to find his way out of the mess he made. It also shows-through Galen's story and Has'-that little actions and rebellions can add up to something more, especially when enough people are doing them.
