Book 3 in this series took me an age to get through, which to be fair was due in part to having other things going on in my life that meant reading was not a top priority for a few weeks, but also because I just didn't care about half of the characters. If I never have to read another chapter about Prue Giroux for the remainder of this series, I'll be happy. Anyway, this one stripped things back and focused on the characters I care about most, so from that subjective viewpoint it was more enjoyable for me.

I love Michael. I loved reading about him in London. Wilfred was cute. I was devastated about Jon, even though I feel like he hardly got any...screentime? Pagetime? I mean, almost the entirety of his and Michael's relationship happened between books. But whenever they started to talk about him I became a big blubbering wreck because apparently I do have emotions and I just want Mikey to be happy. But I'm glad that his death didn't form the central point of the book and that Michael was able to start moving on.

Of course I couldn't really get on board with most of Mary Ann's choices and she and Brian having a kid together is probably a Bad Idea - the next couple of books will tell.

Mona came back. Was wondering what had happened to her.

Mrs Madrigal needs more screentime. Ok, granted she's kinda old and doesn't seem to do a lot except plant flowers and smoke pot, but she's cool and I like her and I want her to have adventures.

On to book 5!

Mary Ann is a lot harder to connect with in this book. Her actions in this book are a far cry from the Mary Ann of the first three Tales of the City stories. Still a great read if you're in the mood for a well-written San Francisco soap opera.

the third in this series continues to be my favourite for now, but any excuse to read more about these characters. i especially loved the addition of wilfred and lord roughton.

michael's storyline broke my heart.

the only problem i had with it was
Spoilermary ann's behaviour throughout was out-of-character to the extreme. i don't know, maybe she has really changed that much since we last saw her but it felt forced.

i know these books are the epitome of ridiculous AND THAT'S PARTIALLY WHY I LOVE THEM but "surprise baby!", really?? haha
