I certainly liked this multi-generational novel of Quebec that spans the decades from WWI to the FLQ Crisis of October 1970. The October Crisis, when PM Pierre Trudeau invoked the war measures act, serves as a backdrop to French/English relationships, from forced conscription in WWI to the seedy garment districts of Montreal to the long held secrets of a mixed family. Some of dialogues are forced and the occasional plot twist is telegraphed, but overall, a solid first novel from Ms. Cyr. Full review: bit.ly/daughtersstory
