What a wild rollercoaster I was on with this plot.

I kind of figured that the secret penpal confessions by Block B on their faces, but I didn’t think that she would be as big of a doormat as she was in the end.

The forgiveness was definitely not satisfactory to what he put her through.

He literally just had to tell her what was going on, and she wouldn’t of been blindsided, but this was crazy.

I would not really read this book, but overall it was good for how messy everything was, and if you like a doormat h, then I think this might be for you.

But I do you want to read her best friend and his best friends love story. I’m hoping for a second chance is riddled with drama.

I loved this. I’m a sucker for the whole pen-pals to lovers trope but this really took the cake. If you want spice mixed with fluff, this is for you

it was okay (and lowkey might be too much for some people considering the TW)

the writing reminds me of those high-school wattpad romance..🤷🏻‍♀️ too many things going on (brie, lacey, ashley, dia&finn, parents omg should i keep going?) so the book doesn't feel personal to xavier and vee
AND how could they brushed off the harder topics like it was nothing???? hello? almost getting raped? literal defamation? pedophilia? HUH??????

i'm not scared of darker topics but the way they deal with said darker topics is not cutting it

all TW and darker topics aside, it was honestly not that bad and i'd even say cute and might have some potential with the smut scene but then again how could i put aside those darker topics???

PLEASE HEED THE WARNINGS READING THIS BOOK.

Well, well, well. Would you look at that. I was not expecting to like this book AT ALL.
I feel like a say that a lot but... ya know. It's high-school based, I usually don't do those but the premise was tempting enough (And booktook made me do it)

That being said, it did not read as a High School book. Well, not all the time at least. There was some cliches and high school drama but the banter and the conection between the main couple more than made up for that.

The whole confessions/letters trope is something I really enjoy, honestly. It was well played, I loved how it came to be and it was super organic, in my opinion.

Xavier is a lovely character. I wanted to hit him in the face for a while, but he redeemed himself. I loved his depth. Plus, he's hot. Come on. I liked his intensity and the way he cared, his backstory made me cringe in simpathy more than a few times. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOW THE TITLE CAME TO BE, I THINK IT WAS PERFECT. PERFECT. (spoiler) I was so so so so disappointed with Xavier for not doing something when he saw Logan roofie Aveena. That sucked. He only came forward when Alex took a leap of conscience. WHat the fuck, Xavier?

Aveena (What a weird name lol) is also a lovely counterpart. I resonated with her in a lot of things. Her backstory was tragic and I liked how she turned out to be because of it, it didn't feel forced. Her family issues were mostly organic and believable.

The second part of the book took me a little by surprise, but it was good. I felt like they kept hitting a wall and it frustrated me but the interactions in the middle were worth it. (and the smut hehe)

(spoilers) I was... dissappointed? That Xavier's father knew. That felt a tad too forced but I am sure there are real assholes who have done worse. And the whole scene with Logan and Axel... jesus fucking christ. I shuddered .
PS: The epilogue was so cute I died. I want to read Dia and Finn's story so bad. I think it might be interesting.

this would’ve been a 4 star if it weren’t for the final 30% of the book. I was so intrigued off the bat and couldn’t put the book down, until about 70% of the way through.

such good use of childhood friends to enemies to lovers & anonymity/letter writing tropes

I definitely think this book should be advertised as New Adult, not Young Adult, and would be more believable if set on a university campus. The characters, their lifestyle, their development, and the plot did not line up with high school aged characters. It made it feel disconnected and unrealistic.
