This one is kind of weird. I heard about it from an indigenous tiktoker who was talking about how indigenous storytelling is different so that might be why this is off. A lot of the magical elements don’t show up until after the halfway point of the book, but this is the first of the trilogy so those things may be explored more in the other books in the series.

I read it for school. It wasn't bad, slow start, things picked up in the last third. The characters were complex and consistent. I care a lot about Jared, so I might continue the series for him. The writing was good, it is straightforward and funny. At the end it got confusing, sometimes I felt I missed chapters, even though I didn't. But overall, it's a solid read if you want a magical realism, especially if you want more realism than magical.
