Come for the scooby doo nostalgia, leave when it gets real racist about Native Americans for absolutely no vital story reason. Would have been a fairly entertaining, if shallow, mystery with Lovecraftian horror trappings otherwise. Gave off strong Scott Pilgrim vibes in the action scenes. Edited to add: weird transphobia, too, I almost forgot. And not 'period-appropriate' or anything else that is used to justify transphobia in retro settings - just gross, the-author-and-the-editor-are-clueless transphobia.

ok lol it literally took me months to finish this. it wasn’t bad but it was definitely not thaaat interesting. the main characters are (sort of) forgettable too so… It was intriguing for like, a couple pages. But yeah, I was contemplating to DNF this book but I really wanted to know what happened in the end, and there was a little plot twist which made the book better, I guess.

I enjoyed his well enough despite some overly...effortful? play with language. The last fifth of hr book read as one long action sequence, which got a little dull over time but was more than appropriate given the Scooby-ness of it all!
