DNF. The writing was a little too all over the place for me.

So this was fine I guess. My most immediate issue with it was the way the main character’s speech. It seems very modern and yet also juvenile for her age. She also has this strange coping habit where she pretends to talk to an audience in her head and it made me physically recoil every time she did it. Even her “beast” or whatever it is (I’m assuming a dragon because I think it was mentioned once but we haven’t actually seen it) is weirded out by it.

The setting was hard to imagine because it felt like a fairy tale, but some characters are in tee shirts and jeans. It’s mentioned that there used to be plumbing and electricity, but not since the curse??? So I’m not sure if I’m supposed to be imagining a more modern setting that may be a bit run down or what.

Speaking of the curse, it’s not really explained what it is. It makes people sick, took away some modern utilities somehow, made the castle residents stuck within the same time period (like they don’t age or apparently learn new things??), etc. And then they have demons come into the castle every night to have orgies.

Despite how pretty this cover is and how much I WANTED to like this, it was a big naw for me.

I made it to chapter seven before I DNF. This book definitely wasn’t for me. I was really excited to read it because I love retelling especially spicy ones. But the writing in this was not doing it for me. She talks to an invisible audience which is annoying but I can over look it. The first few chapters were really good but as soon as she left home I couldn’t handle it. The way people spoke was uh childish to me. I like more serious things and this was definitely not a serious tone. I don’t get far into the spice but it did immediately show LGBT representation which I liked a lot.

If you’re looking for a book that’s not serious I’d try it out but I just couldn’t get through it. The only person I liked was the main guy (can’t remember his name) but I only got to chapter seven so that could’ve changed. There was one like he said that made me smile. I read a few lines to my friend and she laughed so maybe my sense of humor just doesn’t line up with the authors.

I liked the premise of the book, with the curse suppressing people inner animal and what not. But it was a pretty long book, 377 pages. And not a lot actually happened? Obviously it’s a spicy book, but I guess I was expecting a little more plot…

And the language really threw me off. I don’t read a lot of books like this, but the language didn’t seem to fit with the setting of the book to me. I don’t know.

I enjoyed it, I don’t feel like it was a waste of time. But it could’ve been condensed a little bit more. It didn’t feel like the end of the book was the end of the book. We leave on a “cliffhanger”, but it just feels like the book is unfinished instead.

But if you’re into really intense foreplay and spicy scenes, then you’ll like this book.

Dude, kindle unlimited is a wild ride. This book was fun. Adorable characters and creative swearing, what’s not to love?
