Danielle really does love making her characters absolutely go through it, these two did not get a second of peace I swear but I also totally ate it up. I really enjoyed this one and loved both Zarrah and Keris but I didn’t connect with them in the same way I did with Lara and Aren and I think this was just because it felt like a lot of the story really dragged. They spent such a huge portion of the book in Vencia inside the palace that in the end I did lose just the tiniest bit of interest.
In saying this, I’m really invested in this series now and I want to see what happens to all of these characters I’ve come to love so much so I’ll be diving into the next one. I also thought Keris was such an interesting MMC because we’re so used to seeing the tough, battle worn and classically muscled sexy mmc in romantasy and Keris really isn’t that. He’s intellectual and soft (not in a bad way). He finds violence really hard to deal with and relies heavily on his wit and smarts and I love that.
I would recommend it if you loved The Bridge Kingdom and wanted to learn more about Keris and Zarrah and you adore a forbidden romance.

Danielle L. Jensen!!!
(Spoilers if you havent read The Traitor Queen)
It takes a real brilliant and amazing author to write a plot that most readers already know a fair few of the plot points (since this book runs parallel to the events of the end of Book 1 most of Book 2) and STILL finds a way to tell a brand new and unique story that makes you sit at the edge of your seat in anticipation, excitement and dread for what these characters go through.
This was an intricate web of multiple plans and plot points that had seeds sewn into the story from the first line of Book 1… and amazingly these lines just come together in a chefs kiss of beauty…
Amazing book!!! Amazing Banter!!!
This is one of those books that stick with you for a while after reading it!!!

It took around 170 pages to get to the good stuff. It shouldn't take this long for a book to get interesting! It's a real shame, as I was very intrigued by Keris and was interested in learning more about him! (I, unfortunately, can't say the same about Zarrah...)
