This book is like Gilmore Girls if Gilmore Girls was about horny witches.

There was barely a plot. Just two main characters that are SO basic and predictable.
Him: I have dark hair and a dark side so you know I'm no good.
Her: I have white hair and no family so you know I'm pure and worthy.

And then it's just about how they want to bang.

I'm gonna be honest, I ate it up. My angsty teenage heart was singing. She was perfect and beautiful, he was tragic and brooding. There is almost no plot. Almost nothing gets resolved. But probably worth the read if you're horny, if you like Gilmore Girls, or if you're into witchy stuff.

Hollow Heathens is one of those books where you have to trust the process. This beginning was slow and I felt like there was nothing happening. The fictional town was very Salem like and the magical nature of the townsfolk was out in the open. I thought that was interesting. But, I had to make myself go back to it because I felt like it would get going...and it definitely did. You have to get through thr first 8 or so chapters before the story really takes off. However, the love story was beautiful and I really liked where it ended up.

it started off strong, very spooky and atmospheric, but the longer i read the more the romance kicked in and it settled in the 'not really my vibe' category. too angsty, the 'forbidden' bit didn't seem massively forbidden and i just didn't care about any of the characters

Found myself getting annoyed at the end of almost every chapter, annoyed with most of the characters.

like fun vibes but not great execution

The premise of this book was rly cool: a mysterious town that only certain ppl can find? four cursed boys who have to wear masks all the time? a girl who can see ghosts? sign me up!!

but the writing wasn’t the best, and certain awkward phrasing and repeated phrases (“my eyes bounced between hers”???? many such cases) made reading it awkward. the plot was convoluted, it was unclear why the heathens were doing like 75% of the things they were doing, and the characters outside of Fallon and Julian just felt like plot devices instead of ppl.

i finished it but it defo slogged a bit towards the end. idk some ppl love it but i felt many times that the author was trying to write this beautiful artsy sentence that just felt disingenuous. anywayyysss

I now have a book hangover and in a slump because nothing will compare.
