A little long. A little unresolved but I enjoyed most of it
Started great, lulled in the middle, had an unrealistic action hero thriller ending.
Anything where the racists are likely get what’s coming is fun to read.

This book was absolutely riveting! When I read the initial synopsis, I was hooked. I am SO happy I read this book. I loved it from start to finish. The jaw-dropping plot twists kept me up at night and the characters were wonderfully complex. Greg Isles is a master! I loved this book!

As expected, another amazing novel by the wonderful Greg Iles! I will now begin to wait with bated breath for book two of this trilogy.

Is Natchez, Mississippi Dr. Tom Cage a killer? His former nurse, who is terminally ill is dead and Dr. Cage is accused of her murder. Soon, stories from the civil rights era emerge. Stories of atrocious murders of African Americans by white supremacists. Nurse Viola Turner’s brother disappeared just before she left Natchez. Was she killed because she knew something? And how is Dr. Cage involved? Warning: this novel contains graphic and vivid depictions of the torture and horrific murders of black people during the 1960s.

At close to 900 pages, this behemoth gives you a lot to think about especially given the current state of race relations in this country. Parts were a bit far-fetched, but an important read given the subject matter. There are some gruesome descriptions of torture and abuse, however. I'm surprised I was able to stick with it.

Holy cow! There is no comparison between this book and the first 3 in the series, amazing story! I am just crushed that I didn’t pull books 5 and 6 from the library before they closed for COVID-19

Though it took some time for me to get into this one because it was written so different from the first books in the Cage Series, once half-way through, I could not put it down. Iles does not disappoint.

I love a long, rambly read but the diminishing amount of ramble to repetition finally got to me.

I really liked this book and would have given it 5 stars if not for the fact that some parts dragged on a little too long. I found the main character a little frustrating at times but overall I enjoyed getting to know him. This novel is long but the story is compelling and keeps you reading. I would recommend this book to anyone that is interested in civil rights crimes and a lot of conspiracy.
