A personal and comforting memoir that focuses on maternity, artistry, and culture. Zauner shares a tender story that a wide variety of readers can relate to. Her articulate nature creates a delicate narration, adding value and substance to the  narrative. One of the best works of literature I’ve picked up in a long time.

This was not a bad book at all and I have nothing but empathy for everything Zauner went through in this memoir. I can't really explain why I struggled to connect with it - it was well-written and has clearly been very successful with most readers, which I'm glad about! I think for me, I prefer memoirs that recount a very unusual experience or provide a very new perspective on things, whereas as difficult as the loss of a loved one is, and as much as I wish nobody ever had to go through it, the emotions and processes Zauner describes going through make perfect, obvious sense. That doesn't mean I wouldn't recommend it, or that I think Zauner shouldn't have bothered writing it, or that I think she owes anyone a more dramatic story. But it does mean I don't think this book was aimed at me.
