This is an informative and accessible book on human history. Harari does an excellent job simplifying complicated concepts without losing key facts. My only criticism is around his treatment of religion and spirituality; he is very dismissive and writes as though everyone who is reading the book agrees with him. Promoting religious beliefs would not be appropriate in this book, but neither is it appropriate to mock those who are religious.

It's not funny how much this is my kind of children's book! It's the book I wish I could have read as a small child.

learning points:

- humans took over the world and drove large animals to extinction because we can tell stories and collaborate in large groups
- bonobos are sapphic
- mcdonald's is a story that millions of grown-ups tell each other and believe very strongly but it only exists in our imaginations
- i should good care of my fingers in case a super smart rat archaeologist finds it in a cave sometime in the distant future

I bought this book for my kid and he loved it very much. He was showing off by throwing out facts from the book which made me read it. This looks like the kinder version of the book [b:Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind|23692271|Sapiens A Brief History of Humankind|Yuval Noah Harari|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1595674533l/23692271._SY75_.jpg|18962767] which I had read and very much appreciated last year.

Its written in a way that makes it easy for kids to understand with very nice kid friendly illustrations. Hoping for the Volume II to come out soon.

While this had some interesting info, it was hard for me to get through and stay with. I commend the authors ability to simplify complex things like corporations, extinction, evolution, etc and the illustrations are incredible. While it all connected in the end, there was still something that just didn’t click for me and def felt like I was dragging my feet through this.
