Probably one of my favorite books! Couldn't out the book down, and the story had a really good balance of murder mystery, thrill, and the romance (love the ship)! I did not expect the killer AT ALL. Plus, the books was very easy to read!

I did really like this one. I love a good mystery with subplots that actually contribute to the story.

It was great fun to read along with all these lovely gals. I think reading together was what made the book much more exciting than what it actually was.

The book has the perfect recipe for a brilliant mystery thriller. But somehow, I didn’t experience the ‘punching’ effect that I expected from this hugely popular one which was all over booksta. It might be because, we had multiple perspectives during our buddy chats and all of us were taking all these wild guesses and I should say one of us actually managed to nail the secret.

It’s a detention class in Bayview, 5 students are held by their teacher for the possession of cell phones in their bags. Simon, the inventor of the school’s infamous gossip app is one of them. The others involve – Bronwyn - the Yale bound studios girl, Addy - the beauty queen, Cooper - the star baseball player and Nate - accused of drug peddling now on probation. Simon dies due to an allergic reaction during class. The other four are now top suspects for the alleged murder of Simon.

McManus delves into the lives of these 4 teenagers and gives us a peek into their teenage worlds. Police investigations, media’s involvement, the gossip app and certain mysterious online revelations, all wreak havoc on the reputation of these four. Having to deal with parental pressures, boyfriend obsessions, alcoholic/drug addict parents none of them have it easy. All of them have committed certain blunders and have things to hide. Certain friendships get tested, boundaries are crossed and each of them are stretched beyond what they are capable of handling. But can they solve the puzzle of Simon’s murder?

McManus indeed does a wonderful job of taking the reader on a wild adventure of guess work and theories around these suspects until the very end. The writing is done from the point of views of all the four protagonists and the curiosity piques at the end of each of their narrations. However, the ending did not manage to blow my mind off like one might think. It seemed a bit too over the top and unrealistic.

Oh this was so fun to read! The author does such a great job of getting you to trust a character- and then completely shattering that trust. And the cliffhangers make it impossible not to devour this book. It’s mostly believable, while remaining light and fun (for a murder mystery anyway...) I can’t wait to see what McManus has for us next!

Yes, I know I'm late to the party on this book, but what can I say, I've been busy!

So I've been having trouble sleeping lately, and I thought I'd start reading before bed again in a bid to ditch my devices and stop scrolling through social media. I think I may have picked the wrong book though as I ended up staying up even later to finish one of us is lying!

A locked room mystery, involving four suspects, the jock, the geek, the criminal and the princess, what's not to love?

Even though the characters were stereotypes, the author still made them both believable and likeable. I really enjoyed all of the characters, but after finishing reading I think Addy was my standout as she had the best transformation out of all of them.

Did the ending surprise me? Not entirely, but Karen McManus still managed to get a few twists and turns in there along the way to keep me doubting if I was right or not.

I have the sequel on my shelf which I'm both a little nervous and excited for as I enjoyed this first one so much and sequels are kind of hit and miss.

A definite must read for mystery lovers, even if the young adult genre isn't usually your cup of tea.

One of us is lying is a book I can forever come back to. If May only be the second time I’ve read it but it was the book that brought me into reading back in 2019.
Having read the book before I remembered the main details but the finer details of this book are so much more important.
The book is amazing at covering mental health and the consequences that can come from rejection and bullying- despite the book also being a thriller murder mystery. I really like how the book covers mental illnesses and it can teach people the effects of their actions which I think a lot of readers will take from this book, despite if they love it or they hate it.
While rereading this book I picked up on a lot of missed factors that washed over me last time a lot of the main pieces of information make a lot more sense now I can remember the finer details.
I’m utterly amazed at how a book can be so action packed and thriller worthy while having the most normal day to day lives to.
Overall, this book is definitely one of my favourites, I love Karen M McManus’ work and I will read every book she has ever released as she writes some of the most amazing thrillers!
