Reading this book felt like those late night discussion you have with friends, where they share secrets and life stories.

It made Circe's life, her struggle, fear, pain, joy, loss and sorrow even more real. Finishing this book felt like saying goodbye to a friend.

It is a beautiful story about self-discovery, about overcoming the need for external validation, about becoming our true self and about how it is to be a woman.

Madeline Miller's writing style is mesmerizing (funny for a book about a witch) and it was an absolute blast to read!

It wasn't horrible, but it was slow and I failed to see why everyone raves about this. Circe was, I guess, relatable to some degree, but she wasn't interesting and she really took forever to show any agency.

happy ending we likey

this showed a lot of interesting humanly issues even though the characters were mostly gods lmao. although we're made in the God's image, but that's only in the bible for my knowledge.
there was child neglect, relationship issues cause welp it's ancient greece(what did u expect). they may have come up with the word for logic, but these gods for sure didn't use it and are behaving like spoiled children.

I read Song of Achilles right before this one, and I really enjoyed this one for different reasons than Song of Achilles! Of course it is a mythology retelling, but so much canon lore was packed in in a very readable, sustainable way. As a Percy Jackson kid, I appreciate Miller's way of retelling these stories in a more adult, but also modern, perspective. She highlights the hierarchy of mortals and gods, as well as the hierarchy within god-hood itself, and how as women, we are constantly commodified and "owned" and how we must make our own place in this world.

I loved this book, Circe is an amazing character. At times a bit slow, but made me cry in all the best ways. Miller's writing inspires, moves, paints masterpieces, breaks hearts. Please read!
