The book was a challenging read as the language was very different. The story was also just not super engaging and if I wasn’t doing a specific reading challenge, I doubt I would have finished this book. I gave it a 2 instead of a 1 because the book was interesting in the sense of getting a peak into history through the lens of fiction, but I just genuinely could not wait to just be done with this book. Even the ending didn’t seem that great in my opinion. I was rooting for the characters and do think there were some interesting characters in this book that helped bring the score up to a 2 as well. I really loved Jill.

4.5 stars! Louisa May Alcott never fails to deliver. Her characters are always SO loveable, and their growth is always so evident and well done. I don’t know why I didn’t read this sooner. I’m just weird :/

This book was a childhood favorite. I found it online for my Kindle for free. Was it old fashioned? Sentimental? Preachy? yes, but I still shed a tear and enjoyed it. Not for all readers, but I enjoyed the nostalgia.

Like all of Alcott's children books, there is plenty of female moral superiority and male sheepish bad behavior, but the early parts, when Jack and Jill's characters and friendship are revealed, is touching and still holds up well today.
