The overall feeling it gave was definitely ominous. not really knowing the threats that these characters face whilst also knowing what they have done is eerie. I won’t lie, sometimes i got a bit lost, Kay Dicks style of writing in this novel could be quite abrupt and to the point at times.

This book is fascinating. It is the type of story that forces you to ask many questions but gives you no answers; readers are entirely grounded in the emotional reality of living in a highly regulated time rather than the facts of how society came to be the way it is. It is a interesting way of responding to dystopian fiction, which often becomes so involved in depictions of specific instances of oppression or violence. This is definitely the type of story that needs to simmer, while reading I found myself dissatisfied during parts, but a week on I still find myself thinking about it and appreciating the things it does. The afterword does a great job of providing the additional context needed to fully understand the story.

A short book but it dragged in, I found it very hard to follow what was going on. An interesting premise though.
