- i kept getting amazed at how the three authors geniusly weaved the plot: to put some new takes but still sync them to the actual history like
how edward was still not a king even though he didnt die. instead he stepped down his throne even after conquering it back from mary and named bess as the next reign - when i said funny, it WAS FUNNY. HILARIOUS. PEAK COMEDY. SUCH COMEDY FOUNDER (no, hyperbole) but you get the idea right. the banter, the narration all full of entertainment i was soooo contented i forgot when was the last time i had so much fun reading a book.
- and the three POVs part? also clever. i enjoyed the three POVs so much and most of the time found myself eagerly getting excited to read the next chapter to see the other perspective. and the order of the POVs was so consistent but never break the plot and they were just very complementing to each other. you know, it was also satisfying to find out the true reason why a certain character behaved so annoyingly in the previous chapter cause no worries! NOW it's his/her perspective. and also it showed that equally-shared portion of the three main characters arc (although jane and g were an ounce above edward), everyone got their development though it might not appear THAT DEEP but its still okay for me.
jane grey.
our leading lady was a bookworm and WHO doesnt like a bookworm main character? she and her bibliophile-self were sooo relatable!
also, sorry to break it up to you, if you're in the same batalyon as me where we put the strict rules to enemies-to-lovers (they have to be REAL enemies!!): jane-gifford were not enemies to lovers! idk why people put that label on them though.....their marriage was forced so it's understandable that they started their relationship with grunge i guess
gifford dudley.
out of context a bit, and i actually havent seen the series yet but why they changed it to guildford? like its not any better tbh
edward tudor.
our boy king. actually its kinda hard to write something about him given the short life he had in the actual event

i have to say though, this book got really really cringey at some points. i get that it was part of the whole "humor" aspect of the book but sometimes the jokes just didn't land for me. similarly some of the things that happened i found to just be outright ridicuolous and far-fetched. like i understand that it is not supposed to be a historically accurate story and that many creative liberties were taken, but there were points where things just went too far. also the insertion of the narrator's voice at random points in the middle of the story just wasn't exactly for me either.
i'm starting to sound really negative, but truly, i did enjoy it!! i felt like it had such great vibes and i really enjoyed learning the history surrounding the events. i did a ton of googling and learning about henry viii, his wives, and kids (even though no actual historical events were really potrayed in the book) that i even listed to some of the six the musical soundtrack and now want to go see it lol! i also will likely read the next book in the series so i am glad i picked this one up!
