I know people seem to prefer these graphic novels to the stories by Howard and those that came after him... but I have to admit I don't. I’ve yet to read a graphic novel about Conan that didn’t irk me for one reason or another. And the Conan featured in this graphic novel has far too little to do to occupy his mind and literally gets away with murder in his early teens. So the only reason Born on the Battlefield gets 3 stars is the second half was much better than the first. Plus the artwork was lovely.

For those curious about Conan’s origins, I would honestly say you’re better off reading the first half of Conan the Barbarian by Michael A. Stackpole. Stackpole's take on Conan and the idea that he grew up in isolation, training to become a great legend and swordsman is vastly more appealing. Not to mention the fact that in Stackpole’s novelization of the movie, female characters do more than fawn over Conan or sleep with him even when they’re merely mentioned in passing.
