Delightful set of long interviews, mostly if the Stonewall generation rather than of Stonewall veterans — so a fascinating set of coning out stories and institutional histories

This is really a gorgeous book, and a must-read for young queer people. There is a lot of "history" around what really happened at stonewall and who was there, but this book is fundamentally disinterested in that. Fleishman tells the story of what it was like to be queer in in the 20th century through the eyes of a really diverse set of older queer people: diverse in queerness, race, relationship to pride movements, and activism. Every story adds something precious and unique, and it's very usefully punctuated with the dry facts of gay history. I'mstarting my PhD in queer studies soon, and I'  so glad I read this! It is absolutely essential!
