This is such a charming series and I look forward to each new book as it is released. It has a wonderful setting that gets the reader into the holiday spirit and is paired with wonderful characters that are a joy to read and a mystery that kept my turning pages. I can't wait for the next one in the series.

I love the covers in this series, they're so festive. some of the characters are fairly stock and take a back seat to the main drama, which is Merry's ex Max bugging her with an unsavory relationship proposition, her store assistant Jackie seeking fame and then disappearing, and spoiled drama queen Erica (Max's fiance) throwing fits around town. Max is the first person to die. I thought the plot was pretty interesting, and I really appreciated Erica's growth over the course of just 1 book. it was nice to see female friendship at the end. I'm glad the romance wasn't a bigger part of the plot. also fascinating that the author "Vicki" has put a character "Vicky" in this series.

Another enjoyable read in this series. I hope we're back to actual Christmas time in the next one. I think I'll wait until closer to the holiday to read it.

3.5 stars. I would have given up on this series before I got to this book if I didn’t like the author’s other series so much. I’m glad I stuck it out.

Before she returned home to Rudolph to run the family business (a year-round Christmas store), Merry Wilkinson worked for Jennifer's Lifestyle magazine (part of a Martha Stewart-esque 'lifestyle brand'). Now her former co-workers are in her town to do a feature on their Christmas in July celebration, when magazine employee Max (Merry'e ex) is killed in her store.

I love Christmas stores. I wish Mrs. Claus's Treasures was a real place, and that I could go there, because it sounds awesome. This book is also great. Merry is a compelling main character and her family and friends make up a fun supporting cast. The mystery has enough twists and turns to be interesting, but isn't so complicated it's hard to follow. Having Merry's mom and former co-workers in the story adds depth to her character. Plus, even though it takes place in the summer, Hark the Herald Angels Slay still feels very Christmassy. A perfect novel for the start of the Christmas season.
