So I'm still loving Kel. She's very different from the usual characters I like. She's calm, kind, and just. I really like how she loves to protect people and animals alike.

I was very sad that Crown and her mate died. They were like family to Kel and very brave. On that same note I'm loving how human like the animals are in this series. You see a lot more of it in the series with Daine but I love it this way as well. But I'll be even more sad when they pass. :(

I was glad that Daine was able to find the griffins parents with no mishaps that would result in Keladry's death or evisceration. I was a bit sad at the end though when the baby griffin left.

I'm happy at the new aspects on romance in the novel. I know she doesn't end up with Cleon but I'm happy that Kel has someone who likes her that she likes back and is patient and kind to her. I feel bad for both of them though since they have barely a moment of peace to have some alone time!!! lol

I was intrigued yet again by the robot machines. I still find it utterly disgusting how the mage uses children's spirits to power them. (This is from what I remember from the fourth book not this one) I reminds me of how that one mage in Poison Study siphoned the power of child/teenager mages and tried to do the same to Yelena. -.-

Squire is the third book in the Protector of the Small quartet and follows Keladry of Mindelan on her quest to knighthood. As the title clearly states, this particular book is about her years as a squire in service to Lord Commander Raoul of Goldenlake and Malorie's Peak.

Squire is my favourite book in the Protector of the Small quartet and my favourite Tamora Pierce book. I don't know what it is about it, but I've always enjoyed reading it the most out of all her books. Kel is my favourite Pierce protagonist, as I've gushed about several times before, and this book sees her go through a lot of growth.

It also does something that the other books haven't done yet by giving Kel an official love interest
in the form of her longtime friend, Cleon
. This part, over all, is something that's so important because it does what a lot of books don't do by reminding Kel that it's her body and her choice, and that there's consequences to what she does, so she needs to properly take care of herself. Positive sex education for teenage girls! Important!

I love all the "side quests" throughout this book, from the Griffin to the Progress. Just everything that gives Kel such an interesting experience and sets her up for her final book in the series.

That being said, this also includes her Ordeal. The last step on her way to knighthood. Anyone who's seen the final book's title will know just how that goes, but it still feels like such a good way to end this book, to see all the work that Kel put into the last 7/8 years get to what she's working towards.

Aah, I love this book. I love this book so much. Go read it. Go read it now.

Gods all bless, lady squire.
