Possibly the best Stackhouse book I've read yet. Most of the fantasy characters are now established so this one was more focussed purely on the story. OK, so there were a couple of predictable bits, but it was good fun and well told. One of these days I may go back to the TV series, but the books are far better.

Thank goodness, I enjoyed this book much more than the previous one!

Sookie has her love life under control, and is pursuing only one man-- Quinn, a were tiger. She's dealing with feelings from past relationships, and that's fine. We have an explanation for her attractiveness to supernatural men.

I like how her relationship with Eric is playing out-- she's making it clear she isn't falling in line as one of his subjects. Both are dealing with emotional fallout from past events, and are struggling for a grip on what this means to them.

I was interested in the background we get on Bill. I like the new character of Amelia.

Better yet, we have a plot or two! There were actual mystery/adventures that held my interest. There were also details of how vampire society works, and I always like that part of the world-building.

Looking around the net a bit, I found out there is a short story that falls between [b:Dead as a Doornail|170210|Dead as a Doornail (Sookie Stackhouse, #5)|Charlaine Harris|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1255574650s/170210.jpg|1053933] and this one that fills in some of the details that I was wondering if I'd missed somewhere.

Book 6 refers to the murder of Sookie's cousin Hadley. I kept thinking I had forgotten some plot in a previous book in the series. Do yourself a favor and download the short story 'One Word Answer' before starting book 6. Here's a place to try: http://www.scribd.com/doc/8689516/Charlaine-Harris-Sookie-Stack-House-45-One-Word-Answer-Bite

Otherwise you will be as confused as I was starting on this book. This (very) short story will bridge the gap. I like this series, but it would have been helpful to know about the short story before starting the book!

Okay let me start this by saying that I really want more Eric/Sookie in the following books. There just hasn't been enough of them in the last two. I really don't get why Sookie could like what I like to call Doll!Eric and not actual Eric. He's not so bad comparatively speaking and he's always watched out for her. So yeah, I don't get it.

That said, Bill is totally off my radar after this book. I was just as shocked as Sookie was when we found out that the Queen had sent him to put himself in Sookie's life through whatever means possible. She has every right to hate him at this point. He has a lot of redeeming himself to do as far as I'm concerned.

Quinn. Sometimes I think I like him and sometimes not so much just because he hasn't really been all that fleshed out. I feel kind of like he's a one-dimensional character and we only get teased that he might have some interesting layers there. He's nice to Sookie. He's a nice guy, it seems. He's bad ass as a were-tiger. But I'm just not endeared to him a whole lot yet for some reason.

I'm glad she and Calvin talked about how things were so she wasn't leading him on and he wouldn't be hoping for something that wasn't going to happen. I like Calvin but only as Sookie's friend.

Okay, onto plot! I continue to say that Charlaine Harris is so good at misdirection. Her reveals at the end always surprise me. Even when I might suspect a little, I always have more than one suspicion about who is doing what and when she does the big reveal everything just kind of clicks into place like any good mystery should.

I almost thought I had missed a whole novel about Hadley's death with how much this book focused on it. But it was an interesting way to get Sookie to collect Hadley's things. Amelia was an interesting character. She was also a pretty powerful witch and since she's going back to Bon Temps with Sookie, we'll be seeing some more of her. That ectoplasmic reconstruction spell was pretty cool. Poor Sookie is always finding dead bodies or being attacked. She just can't get ahead.

I also like that Andy Belefleur got to see how Sookie's ability could be used for good. I get tired of how he treats her like she's a freak for no good reason at all. Now hopefully he doesn't exploit her in any way cause I could see and understand how he would want to and think he was doing a good thing.

The Pelts. I'm glad Sookie and Eric got everything out into the open with them. Now they can move on. Although I'm not sure that the sister is going to let things go. I could see her coming back for more revenge in a later book.

The Wedding party, what a disaster. Sookie saved the day but my goodness she has a lot of near death experiences.

It cracks me up that Amelia turned Bob into a cat. They better keep him away from Bubba! But I really hope Amelia stays on the up and up cause it seems like Sookie can talk to her and it'd be nice for her to have a close friend.

Another great book!

Sookie goes to New Orleans and stirs up a billion threads of unrelated trouble. She thinks that consenting adults can have whatever sex they want but she doesn't want to hear the details, then she gives a hand job through a guy's jeans. All in a day's work.

The time flux thing particularly comes into play here because this book is based on events never disclosed within the fairly closely chronologised earlier books - as if Harris had come up with ideas for the past as she was writing this book and retconned it in.
Anyway, pretty par for the Sookie course, although her new boyfriend isn't very interesting.

On a scale of Bad Sookie to Good Sookie, I give this a "Good Sookie". (Not sure that "Superlative Sookie" exists).

This book was action packed near the end of it. The whole thing about Bill was lame, and a little anti-climatic. The ending was weird. I didn't like how the flashbacks of her cousin made it feel like you should have already known that. When those scenes were not in any books.

The weretiger, Quinn is now the main squeeze or our beloved telepath Sookie. She has now been summoned by the queen of Louisiana to resolve the estate of her cousin, the queen's vampire lover. Before she can even get to New Orleans, crazed weres are making an attempt at her life. Who is behind this plot and what do they want? New Orleans only causes more trouble as it seems that everybody wants in Hadley's apt, the only thing that has stopped them thus far is Sookie's new friend, Amelia, a talented witch. But what do they want? Sookie figures out who has been after her and like usual confronts the problem head on. Not only does she solve the mystery, she helps the queen out in a big way! The novel ends in a blood bath at the feet of the queen, but Sookie is there to witness it all (with the help of both Eric and Bill of course!) Will they be able to tear her away from Quinn? We shall have to wait and see!

Yea! Down with Bill! Honestly every guy seems more interesting and fun than Bill. Though Alcide gives him a run for his money by the end. Was fun to get some new charcater and a new setting.

So here's the thing about Sookie...she can be so insufferable at times. I don't hate her all the time and her voice doesn't grate my nerves to read, but sometimes I wish I could shake her. Also the word of the day calendar is old already.

It was also quite irritating that suddenly Hadley is dead and Waldo is whodunit and we missed out on that because it's part of an anthology somewhere else.

One of my favorite parts about this book is that Sookie finally gets it about Bill. FINALLY. Girl, you took your sweet ass time, huh?! There was quite a bit of action and lots of different story arcs and I liked that. I really like Quinn, but I'm still #TeamEric. Always. I also really love Queen Sophie-Anne. Onto the next book! :)
