Good book. I just hope I never have to read the words 'papist' or 'popery' again as long as I live.

An excellent book; every single story in it was engaging. My only complaint is that I wish some of them would have been longer, but that would have to have been done at the expense of others.

Amazing and full to the brim of beautiful and exciting history. Edward Rutherfurd has truly outdone himself in his research and knowledge. This book, although very long, was a true joy to read. I can now walk through London and understand the secrets it holds.

I don't like the short story aspect of the book. It is making me not read because I don't want to pick up this book.

This was a book that was given to me as a gift. It’s a daunting book when you first look at it (if you’re not an eBook reader) because it’s a little under 1,200 pages. However, it almost works more as a series of short vignettes that are all interconnected.

The premise of London is to create a comprehensive historical account of the changes, development, and bustle of what has become one of the most cosmopolitan global superpowers in the world. As the tale unfolds, the reader is guided through a London unknown to the average person. With historical nuances, this books is like walking through the back alleys of the great city, learning about the city from the ground.

It took me roughly a month to complete this week, and I am actually a quite fast reader. I took so long with it on the one hand because I was busy and on the other because there is a lot of detail with this work. I cannot imagine how long it took to research London enough to actually complete this book with accuracy, but due to the detail, I wanted to make sure that I didn’t glance over things that required my attention. That is not to say, however, that London is packed with boring or unnecessary information. There is just enough to keep you interested and for the plot to make sense as time progresses.

London is fascinating for the individual who likes to feel grounded in their travels by being knowledgeable about the place, itself. It grants a historical understanding through the perspective of individuals that the reader can relate to, tracing fictional genealogical lines through time. It expresses how a city like London becomes the powerful influencer that it is today, and why people are drawn to the city over thousands of years.
