screaming, crying, throwing up.

(Is it the peak of literature? No. Is it a heartfelt book that portrays emotions in a really raw way and made me bawl my eyes out? Very much so.)

(German version specifics below)
I liked the take on grief in this road novel. Interesting characters and funny situations despite the topics of love, loss, responsibility, grief, acceptance.

The focus starts with the first person narrator and her dead brother, and over the course of the journey/book, it shifts to the old widower she meets.

The age difference between the two main characters really works well, it’s lovely to see how the two of them connect and help each other.

Book club pick: I liked the way the author wrote about grief, it even felt somewhat “refreshing” because it was so different from how grief is often described. Still time constraints and not being hooked enough led to not finishing this book.

If you are afraid of death, read this book. You will still be afterwards, but in a light-hearted way.
