Really enjoyed the second Nick Heller book as well as the first one, maybe more. The plot was suspenseful and I enjoy the characters. They're realistic and relatable, and you can feel their emotions as you read. I always like books that have some element of the FBI in them, and that combined with the break-all-the-rules toughness of the main character made this a win for me. I'm going to read more by this author.

Good book! I like the Nick Heller series and I'm never disappointed with Joseph Finder's books. Good action, but did leave things hanging a bit at the end.

After the damn slog that was the second Locke Lamora book, this was a nice change. It's just as dumb as the first one. But once you get over the desire to shout "That's not how that works!" a few times and put your brain into hibernation you're ready to enjoy it. Things happen, they happen fast and it's best to just go with the flow instead of looking for realism. Heller has an endless source of favors and highly capable friends and acquaintances which allows him to save the day once more, of course. And sometimes that kind of book is just what I need.

Buried Secrets is a fairly expected forray into smash-and-grab thrillers, and won't dissapoint if you're looking for a summmer beach read or poolside thrill ride. Don't expect anything deeper than that.

Kidnapping, espionage, and yet more ex-secret agent stuff. What's not to like?

An exciting book where Nick is hired to find a kidnapped teenage daughter of a family friend. Time is against him while he uncovers multi-layers of conspiracies and secrets of those involved. All is good but could have been shorter. When I thought it could be "the end" it kept going...

Alexa Marcus is in a coffin, and someone buried the 17-year-old girl 10 feet underground. Needless to say, Alexa isn’t there voluntarily. The adventure began innocently enough. Alexa and her friend, Taylor, met at a Boston nightclub known as Slammers. The place had been a jail once, the new owners kept the prison motif for the club. Not long after their arrival, the two girls met the Spanish-looking guy, and Taylor insists she has to leave. While Alexa is in the bathroom, the guy slips pills into her drink, and the rest is claustrophobic history.

That brings the question of who abducted Alexa and why front and center. When pictures of her as she struggles and cries for rescue surface on the Internet, her single dad is beside himself with guilt, worry, and terror. Dad hires Nick Heller, a former intelligence and special forces guy, to investigate Alexa’s disappearance, and it’s a race against time to see whether they can get her back.

The writing is so brilliant here you will gasp tiny, short breaths of oxygen-deprived air as you read it or so it will feel. There are few things that horrify me more than the thought of someone burying me in a small, narrow confined space, so this book struck a particular set of nerves with me. I loved the Nick Heller character, too. Apparently, this is a series, and I’ve dipped into it somewhere other than at the first book. But I didn’t feel overly disjointed or lost. Indeed, I hope to back fill the series and snag all the books in it. I rarely feel the urge to skip ahead in a book. But the tension is so high in this one as Alexa is in the final hours in that coffin with that infrared webcam staring down at her puke and excrement-covered body that I had to deliberately restrain myself from jumping to a less tense part further ahead. Talk about a vivid, riveting story! To my credit, I let it play out the way the author would want me to, but so intense was it that it entirely overcame any soporific benefit my nightly melatonin dose might have offered. I finished it at 1 a.m.; then unable to sleep, I went downstairs to watch a mystery on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. The Hallmark offering was far more boring, for what it’s worth.

I won this in a Goodreads Firstreads Giveaway. THANKS!

Buried Secrets is a fast moving intelligent thriller. Nick Heller is right up there with Reacher and Spenser.

Kidnapping, high-tech gadgets, shady finance and some really good bad guys-it is all in Buried Secrets.

Where Nick Heller's skills and expertise leave off, his wide array of contacts and associates fill in the gaps.

This was an entertaining read.
