I’m kind of over reading queer trauma. I don’t know if my experience is linked to having listened to the audiobook (narrated by the author) but to me there was a lot of jumpiness and things left unresolved. 

There was some healing and joy sprinkled throughout and in the last chapter. 

Overall not a fave and wouldn’t read again - though I normally love memoirs. 

Whilst it was nice to have someone be honest and not an angel or whatever, it was also hard to feel for someone who it felt listed a lot of bad things they did without saying how they resolved this?

An incredibly moving account of growing up Queer and Muslims. Life as a Unicorn is a powerful recounting of trauma and rage, and the slow creeping towards healing. Emotional and astoundingly honest, I was so struck by Amrou's strength, spirit, and ability to find it within themslef to forgive. What an amazing soul.
