Essential reading. The story of the tragedy is well told, but the book really shines in how it reveals the everyday experience of living under apartheid.

Perfect, horrific book. I cried a lot while reading this and was, as usual, both furious and heartbroken for Palestine. This book is vivid, gut-wrenching storytelling paired with informative + necessary historical context. I kind of think everyone should read it? But be prepared: it is a grief experience.

Read this basically in one sitting. It’s a thoroughly researched nonfiction about a horrific bus crash in Palestine [depends who you ask] and the people who were affected - mostly the families of children in the crash but others play a significant role too. Thrall uses the accident as a lens to explore various historical and political aspects of the Israeli regime that impacted the event and its outcome - the unsafe road, unregulated school, poor emergency response. It was both very readable and fast-paced while having some really good new-to-me content about the methods Israel uses to control the movements of Palestinians, especially the city planning.
