The world and the characters and the story were all fantastic. I had so much fun reading this, and I can't wait for more!

While struggling to get into this story, I didn’t expect ending up enjoying it as much as I did. The writing wasn’t really for me and it took too much of a portion of the book to get started, but I really did end up loving the story and its characters: Amina, Dalila, Raksh... And it was funny! And that was enough to make the writing grow on me too.
SpoilerA lot of the pacing hinges however on mysterious introductions of issues that never turned out as dramatic as implied, which made me sceptical at some point. From the supposed danger Dalila would pose to Amina, to the “night of horrors” with Falco… it just went on and on and I did feel that the foreshadowing kept promising me more than I got. Nevertheless,
the history and magic was intriguing and I really had fun with this, so will definitely pick up the sequel once it’s out. Did not know I needed a magical pirate realm in my life but well here we are.

This was so much fun! It's very Sinbad, but with Chakraborty's flair. I love Amina as a character and her entire crew. I can see that we are going to go places in this series. Can't wait to read the next book.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an eARC of the book in exchange for my personal opinions.

This was such a fun read! Lots of adventure, magic, supernatural creatures, and humor. I was worried this book was overhyped, but after finishing I think this book deserves the attention it's been getting. If you like fantasy, adventure, pirates and magic this one is a good one for you. I've read a couple of the Daevabad Trilogy and while I really enjoyed those too, this one hit better. I like Shannon's writing and her characters, as well as the world she sets her stories in.

This one was very good, and I highly recommend the audiobook!
