3.5. I liked the writing but had some issues with the storyline. More thoughts to come.

I already feel the need to read this again, with annotations and highlighting favorite lines and passages (with an orange highlighter). Right now I am definitely being swept away by a torrent of emotions. This book was everything I hoped it would be and more.

This book is a treatise on the power of books and reading. I kept taking pictures of quotes I wanted to remember. It was really, really good. It was I want to take a highlighter to my favorite passages as I reread it during an all nighter good.

A student of mine lent me her copy right after Freedom to Read Week, so I was primed for the subject matter. It's a good exploration of the mixed feelings folks can have around book bannings, as a young person in the book has a negative reaction to Catcher in the Rye, but also has a lot of other stuff going on his life, and the protagonist wonders if the book is to blame for his actions. She ultimately comes down on the side of, "you can't control someone else's reactions, and a book alone is not responsible for someone's actions." It's a quick read and a well-rounded discussion of censorship in schools for teens.

I could not put this book down. I was pulled in from the very first page. Clara’s drive to keep the banned books alive was inspiring. Standing up for what you believe in even when it’s tough and intimidating.

I really liked the inclusion of all the book quotes at the beginning of each chapter. This would be a great read for Banned Books Week in Sept.

The idea behind this book is great. Had I read it before I read Ban This Book by Anal Gratz I would have rated it higher I think.
