What if in this variation Darcy's parents are still alive, although unknown to him his father is dying. When the Gardiners and Elizabeth visit Pemberly circumstances result in Darcy pretending to be his Steward, and Darcy and Elizabeth get to know each other unencumbered by their social differences.
