I'm not sure I 100% buy the reveal , but I read this in two days and was gripped the whole way through. A powerful study of toxic masculinity.
Spoiler
(it seems impossible that someone Liz's age, after decades of allowing men to abuse her and her family members, would have such a sudden change of heart. Especially when shortly before this total 180, Ilse approached her for help and she basically told her to stop stirring shit up! Also, killing your own child is an act so extreme that in order to believe it, I needed a lot more work done in the text to build up Liz's motivation, and it just wasn't there. Also not sure what to make of her over the top display of grief at the funeral if she was the one who killed him?! Was she acting? Was she angry at herself for her complicity? She didn't seem to hold herself terribly accountable when she told Nathan the story.)mignonne's review against another edition

Another EXCELLENT book from Jane Harper! I absolutely love her style of story telling she ropes me in from page one and gets me to ask a lot of hard questions in regards to relationships and what I would do in a similar situation. This book was a real treat to read/listen to. The ending blew me away, and added new layers to everything. Another easy 5/5 from me for Harper! I will continue to read everything she writes! I highly recommend you check her out if given the opportunity! (The audiobooks are fabulous as well!)

A terrific read. Was hooked from the first few chapters and then couldn’t put it down.
