Well..it's not often that I admit that a book kicked my ass. This one not only kicked my ass. It picked me up and body slammed me.

I don't think my measly little mind will ever be the same.

At about 67% percent..I almost gave up. But what did I do? I kept reading the dang thing.
Cuz..well

This book is NOT for everyone! Don't say you weren't warned.

Angel..you just slayed the evil queen.

This is my first book by Angel Gelique and I am blown away! It’s fantastic! Holy Cow - what a ride! Not sure what this says about me but this book was brutal and I loved it!

I don’t want to say to much about the story itself.. Readers should go in blind. I always find this to be the best experience .. all I can say is: do you think a psychopath can be cured? Dr. Morrison and Dr. Bentley do think they can. They think they can cure Hillary. A 15 year old psychopath.

This books needs like a million trigger warnings. And if you got a heart condition, then this book is also not for you. This story is full of brutality, cannibalism, r8pe, torture, and other fun stuff for the extreme horror fan. Enter at your own risk.

Excessive. This is the word that I would use to describe this book. Spoilers are in here too.

Before I go further into my review I want to mention that I am a massive fan of gore, spatter punk and horror. I love disturbing books but this one had a scene that was totally excessive.

The story of Hillary interested me from the first book. I was looking forward to reading this and seeing what kind of sick shit Hillary got up to. This book didn't disappoint.

I'm not going to give you a run down of the story as that is done above, but it was good to see why Hillary became the way she is. However, one thing that irritated the shit out of me was the un believability of her mother. It is totally not convincing that her mother accepted Hillarys strange behaviour - despite her mother being an abused woman. I didn't think this was believable at all and it made the story a little weak.

As mentioned above, I'm a huge gore fan and I love disturbing books and movies. However the scene where Hillary cuts off her brothers penis - and when she rapes a baby with a knife, were just over the top and totally unnecessary. Had these things have happened to an adult character (the cutting of the penis did happen to Hillary's father), I probably wouldn't have cared. But to do this to babies - even though it's fiction, is (in my opinion), grasping at straws in order to merely shock or repulse the reader. It wasn't shocking to me but repulsive in that I thought it was a cheap trick. I just found it wasn't needed to make the reader feel that Hillary was totally unhinged - we already knew that.

Overall those two scene above ruined the book for me - that and the fact her mother wasn't a believable character. I personally liked the rest of the book, the gore was good, Hillary was insane and it was enjoyable. If those two scenes had been different then I probably would have liked it more.

Retribution is the conclusion to the #HillaryTrilogy, and could have been the best story of all three.
The first one is twisted & sick. Nice.
The second one is a prequel, also twisted and sick - but with more meat. Very good. BUT - even gore-gals have limits, and mine is in the second book. I could have done without the details re: Hillary's little brother. That's just one girls opinion - don't let it influence your 'to read or not to read' decision. Minus that - it's my fav in the #HillaryTrilogy.

I'm not a writer, or a professional anything, so I hate saying things like 'you can see how the author's style has grown as the trilogy progressed', but... yeah... that.
THEN... the ending...

It's like my rants on Stephen King.
Spoiler
You can't throw in something 'supernatural' at the final conclusion of a non-supernatural story just for an ending!

I might have been less angry with an "...and then she woke up" conclusion.

So... all in all... I'm happy I found [a:Angel Gelique|6494965|Angel Gelique|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1380400806p2/6494965.jpg], (LOVE the name btw), and that I've started reading her books. (No hard feelings on this review, K?)
I've got [b:Mother|15893009|Mother|Angel Gelique|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1375061977s/15893009.jpg|21643657] qued up on the Kindle for when I'm ready.
