I think this is my favorite Morse so far. The mystery was solved quite neatly - I wasn't left wondering about certain points of the plot. Nicholas Quinn's body was found at his home. He'd been poisoned by cyanide. The investigation focuses on his workplace as Morse tries to determine who was the last to see him alive. When did he actually die? And what was the possible motive? The suspects are plentiful and acting suspiciously. Quinn's deafness adds another layer to the mystery, and the investigators have to rebuild the events keeping that different perspective in mind.

I like the Morse series but this book didn’t seem as attention grabbing as the previous two and thus took me longer than expected to finish reading.

Overall, it was a good story but it dragged a little here and there and Morse’s leecherous side was somewhat more evident than in previous books.
