this was my first (fully completed) star wars book and i loved it!

i love leia, and it was so fasinating to hear about what she had been doing in the 2+ decades since the end of the war. i found myself with a lot of questions at the end of the book, but in a good way. star. wars is so incredible to me and i'm happy this was my first full adventure into the world of SW books and i cannot wait to read more.

I have mixed feelings about this book. On the positive side, I like the deep-dive of middle-aged Leia that compliments the other Leia book, “Leia:Princess of Alderaan,” also by Claudia Gray. And it's well-written. But...it almost feels too realistic? I can sympathize with losing one’s idealism and being just tired of the B.S., and even relationships needing constant work that doesn't always look like a fairytale. At the same time, Star Wars is a fairytale and I want Leia to be a little happier? The revelation and action in the book are excellent, I enjoyed the original characters a lot. I just wish Gray wasn't so hemmed in by the Disney canon (which I hate) that was established in The Force Awakens movie.

This was my first Star Wars audiobook and it was AMAZING! The production value was literally epic. And not just that, it was a brilliant story! It was six years before the events of The Force Awakens, and you get into the birth of the first order, the resistance, and how Leia deals with everything. As much as I adore her as a leader, fighting the good fight, I feel like she wasn't there as a mother. It's why it left it so open to Ben turning to darkness. But as a whole this story had fantastic depth, and made me want to know more about the time between return of the jedi and force awakens.

Ojoj vilken bra bok!

A book revolving around Leia and New Republic politics may not seem all that exciting at first glance. However this novel is the opposite and provides an exciting story while showing just the kind of person Leia is. As well as revealing how the Resistance came to be.

Princess Leia is probably my favorite fictional character and this book added so much further to that love for me. She is older here but back in the Senate (which is a delightful and kind of sad reminder to Claudia Gray's other spectacular Leia book) and trying to help stop the New Republic from an immediate downfall. Those of us who have seen the sequel trilogy know how that plays out with the First Order and we get to see the beginnings of that in this book (as well as in the Aftermath trilogy). Ransolm Casterfo and Leia have one of the best dynamics I've had the pleasure of reading recently. I am so disappointed to have learned that his appearance in the movies was scrapped because he would have added such a new perspective especially given where he ends in this book.

Another excellent addition to the new Star Wars canon from Claudia Gray.

Princess Leia really is my favorite and this book helps solidify it. Seriously loved seeing more of her acting in her political roles and the dynamic between her and Han, even at a distance.
