Very sweet book about a family getting ready for holiday guests. It's also about the excitement of snow.

I thoroughly enjoy the illustrations done by Jonathan Bean. The details are always so intricate - for example, in this book I liked seeing the old fashioned clothesline, the menorah in the window at the neighbor's, the ceramic Christmas tree on the end table. Small touches, but they always add to the scene.
Reading this book in December would probably help me embrace it more. Reading it at the end of March when we still have snow on the ground makes me cry just a bit :)

Funny, realistic "helping" as they await the predicted blizzard.

January 2016 - couldn't talk Ben into this one until we had a snow day, and now he loves it.

December 2017 - I think we read this last winter, too - it's one of my favorite snow stories, and Ben asked for it over and over.

January 2019 - still a favorite.

This cozy and funny book reflects everything I loved about snow as a child. Note the way David is always trying to "help" his mom with chores while he waits for the snow, and laugh at the comical results. The 2-page spreads of the falling snow in David's neighborhood perfectly convey David's anticipation and the mood of the story.

Delightful kid point of view, like the connections between outside and inside.

This was such a cute little book about a little boy who is so excited about the impending "big snow" storm. In order to keep him occupied, his mom assigns him little chores to do around the house, as they're expecting guests for the holidays.

Each chore gets his little imagination going, reminding him of the storm he's eagerly anticipating. He ends up making a mess of things. It's so funny to see his mom's expressions as she cleans up after him–mildly annoyed but so patient. Reminded me of growing up, except The Carpenters and Kurtis Blow were always playing in the background when mom was cleaning. She was a woman of eclectic tastes.

Thanks for recommending this, Lisa. I can't wait to check out [b:Building Our House|14820856|Building Our House|Jonathan Bean|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1344318354s/14820856.jpg|20474374]!

A boy is thoroughly distracted and enchanted by the possibility of snowfall. Cute, with humor for parents, too.

Snow stories are hard in Southern California. Kids don't really get it. However, having grown up in the Northeast, I certainly appreciate this story. Very cute and would be a great read aloud.
