*Review of Death of Doctor Strange & Companion*

Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme of Earth, is murdered in cold blood in the entryway of the Sanctum Santorum. But, Stephen Strange is a crafty man. He has contingency plans for his contingency plans. His younger self arrives as part of a fail-safe he set in place years ago in case his affairs wouldn't be entirely in order. And he's not the only people to arrive upon the death of one of Earth's mightiest protectors - several invaders from other dimensions and realms set up shop on Earth, and they're all fleeing a magic-devouring baby-shaped monster with three "mothers" that scout for places to "eat". It's now up to his younger self to solve the mystery of his murder and keep everything from becoming baby food.

A solid 'event' book. The core title is actually quite good -- the enemies are creepy and have excellent designs, though they're seriously underbaked in the end. The spin-off/side-stories are... less intriguing, by and large. The Blade one was intriguing, and I really liked some of the flavor of the X-Men/Black Knight one. But overall, the unevenness of the side-content mostly breaks up the main book without actually building tension.

When people think of the words Sorcerer and Supreme, most would just think "best/strongest magic guy."
But when it comes to Doctor Strange, it means being a protector from invaders from beyond our conventional space.
So what happens when the constant threat of being whacked from the land of the living since you're such a bigwig becomes realized?
You set a contingency of bringing your younger self, set aside like a half finished bag of chips placed in an airtight container and shoved to the back of the pantry, to the present so he can solve the murder.
Duh.
Shenanigans ensue as this more DRAMATIC Doctor Strange tries to figure out who killed himself and how it ties into the mystical refugees fleeing to earth because of an encroaching black hole of magic gobbling up mystical dimensions like jujubes.

Great start, but then it dwindles into the mostly setup for what MacKay is cooking up ahead. The art was nice, but the stand outs are the colourist Antonio Fabela and the covers by Kaare Andrews.
