Not my favorite of the series but cute. The modern plot was weaker and there weren't enough of the previous historic characters.

I love this entire series, but this is my least favorite. Charlotte is so dull and painfully fluffy, I wanted to smack her over the head with a frying pan. Moving on.

A fun, entertaining book that keeps you reading. Stretching out a romance for almost 500 pages is no easy feat!

I wish there had been a bit more of the historical. I was really interested in George III and his family and wanted to know more about them. I also could do without the meager present-day plot. It was a distraction from the real story and not all that interesting. But unfortunately, that's Willig's link to her other novels so that piece isn't going anywhere. I could have skipped those chapters entirely and would have enjoyed the book even more.

If you're looking for a great beach read, this is it!

Charlotte has been living with her grandmother since her parents tragically passed away when she was a child. And since that moment, due to a simple act of kindness, she has idolized Robert, a distant cousin who became the Duke of Dovedale after her father's death. His return from India seems to be a sign that her dreams were about to come true, but Robert is set on avenging his mentor and really doesn't have time for Charlotte. Worse yet, he must rebuke her in order to get closer to the men he is after. But when she is drawn into the intrigue by Henrietta (heroine of the Masque of the Black Tulip), Robert and Charlotte are trust together and forced to face their feelings.

Another great entry in the Pink Carnation series. Charlotte is a dreamer and Robert is sufficiently noble yet tortured to satisfy any regency romance reader. Again, Willig creates a story within a story full of compelling, likable characters that readers fall in love with. Bravo!

Not my favorite in the series, but not terrible. While many of the same characters were in it, there didn't seem to be much of a mystery or romance. The Hellfire Club had the potential to be something more, but ended up being glossed over for the most part. Overall, it was kind of forgettable.

I thoroughly enjoyed (and hated!) these characters. Charlotte's novel-reading and romanticizing her parents reminded me of myself, down to the disappointment when that first moment of reality hits. The whole royalty aspect was intriguing and, while I was annoyed in the previous book about fictionalizing history, I was somehow not annoyed at the way this one played with history. (I don't know why one irked me and the other felt reasonable...)

The trope of misunderstandings on both sides is strong in this one, but it also... worked. And I very, very much appreciated the timeline of this book -- instead of cramming a courtship into two weeks, it was MUCH more reasonable.

Second chance romance.

Willig's writing is certainly getting better as she goes along. Robert was a much more believable character, and it was nice that he had such a different history from the previous protagonists.

I liked this one far better than the earlier ones. I would recommend new readers to the series starting with this one and then going back if they are interested.
