A cute, innocent, light little book. Good as a pause between more challenging readings, but not the most exciting collection of stories ever. The idea of the little café is really cute though.

I enjoyed listening to the Tales from the Cafe but not as much as I enjoyed Before the Coffee Gets Cold. Just like the previous book, we meet a cast of characters who are looking to travel to the past to meet their loved ones or say what was left unsaid before.

I found the pacing of this book to be very slow and there were quite a few redundancies which I could’ve done without. One example is the author explaining multiple times that there’s a delay between when a person enters the cafe and when those inside can see them. The book reads like a bunch of short stories and it may have been set up that way but since I listened to the audio version, I can’t confirm.

What I loved was Kazaa’s story and how it wraps up. Can’t say much more without spoiling it so I’ll just say if you’re thinking of giving up while reading this, just keep going. The ending is worth it!

I loved the first instalment of this series and had no idea it was even going to be a series. So that was a very pleasant surprise. Despite technically being a sequel, there was no real need to have read the previous instalment, as this could have been a stand alone. But it was nevertheless nice to be able to learn more about the characters introduced in Before the Coffee Gets Cold, and to revisit the cafe, which feels so vivid in my mind that it may as well be a real place.

I cannot help how much I’ve loved these books… I have felt like I was in the café right there with them.

This is so poignant. I cried every couple of pages.

I feel like the teacher from Aharen-san who gets nosebleeds whenever she sees something emotional or poignant.
