The only disappointing thing about Half Wild is Annalise's character, or rather how she affects Nathan during the first part of the book. Still, it didn't take too long for the action to get moving after a few flashbacks to Half Bad.

I loved the action and shifting character dynamics between black, white, half-blood and half-code witches. I especially enjoyed the relationships between Nathan & Marcus and Nathan & Gabriel (I heart Gabriel). Nathan must also deal with his new Gift which is not always positive. The savage wildness of his Gift is described in all its raw power and gore, but that wildness also offers Nathan freedom to commune with nature and the earth which is so vividly written.

That ending. Wow! I did not see that at all. Horrific and moving at the same time. And, damn, a whole year to wait for the next one after those few bombshells.

Ugh, what a waste of a good Marcus. I mean really, what a waste of the "the villain is my dad" trope. Frustrating to say the least.

This book was a big downhill from book 1, which surprised me because it seemed like the author just needed a little more experience, she just needed to learn how to flesh things out a bit, how to settle into a solid writing style. But nope. This book was more of the same from book 1, only less interesting. Annalise, precious perfect Annalise, the constant subject of our narrator's affections and attentions has about a grand total of... 20(?) speaking lines, all of which are dull and do nothing to build on her character from the previous book. Gabriel and Nathan are the only two likable characters, and their interactions and friendship is the only thing keeping this book afloat.

UGH, such a waste. Such a waste.

These books are just so awesome, something new along the lines of witches and magic and one that has a good accurate depiction of Britain/Europe. I really love Nathan & Gabriel's relationship and just cannot wait for the last book even if it will probably be heartbreaking.

Slightly better then the first but the series, although I enjoy it and feel for the characters, I just only like it so I can't rate it any higher. Looking forward to the next book now that Annalise is out of Nathan's affections and he can be with Gabriel and it can all end happily. I hope.
