It was an interesting read. I definitely got more interested in what was happening at the very end of the book.

Took me a little bit to write this review. I was intrigued by this book but it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. Kinda of a futuristic darker gossip girl.

the actual rating i've given this book is 3.5 stars.

overall, i really enjoyed reading this book. i think it's helped me get out of a slump, which is fantastic. but i did have some problems with it.

i see this mentioned in nearly every review but i feel the need to say it again: this is literally a futuristic version of gossip girl. i haven't finished watching the show, but i did enjoy it as a guilty pleasure type thing. the general plot about rich new york kids is very similar to gossip girl. there's also quite a few characters that i can name the tv show character that they were inspired by. if you like gossip girl, then you'll love this book.

the book starts off with an unknown girl falling to her death. i thought this was a very good hook. unfortunately, the novel then goes "2 months earlier". the first 50% of this book was so boring and slow paced as nothing interesting really happened. i quite liked watt's chapters because he was doing things somewhat interesting (probably because they were illegal acts and added some tension to it all).

there is 5 main characters in this book, which was extremely confusing to begin with. at first, i couldn't remember each characters back story or who looked like what (because it kept jumping around from character to character.) once i learned who was who, it became quite interesting following along the storylines and relationships. there were some that i didn't like and others that i loved.

one thing i love about this book, and was totally unexpected to encounter, was a f/f relationship. i know there's definitely one confirmed bi character (however there could be others that i missed). i really liked how this book got to explore sexuality so freely.

the last thing i want to point out is the use of ableist language. leda is often described as "crazy" and "insane". there is nothing crazy about this girl, aside from her extreme jealousy of a guy she likes and her friends.

Spoileri would also like to mention the fact that the black girl was deemed the "crazy" one, and essentially the murderer. and i'm also annoyed at the fact that the one killed was bisexual, in a f/f relationship and never got a happy ending. :/

So I'd honestly give it a 3.75. It's Gossip Girl meets Brave New World. All the angsty teen drama of a CW show set in a futuristic New York. I was unaware it was a series until it ended and now I have to wait until August to find out what happens next. The audiobook was good, though multiple voice actors would have been nice for a book with this many characters. Netflix could totally make a show out of this as could the aforementioned CW. It was a like not a love but I look forward to see what happens next.

So this would be an OK high school age teen novel. Girls with problems could have been an equally acceptable alternate title. While the tower is used, the novel would be almost exactly the same in a neighborhood that had various economic sections. OK but not as good as I hoped.

Actual rating: 4,5 stars!
Wow this was an intense book. So many plots, so many plot twists. SUCH AN INTENSE STORY WITH SO MANY TWISTS AND GOSH. It took some time before I got the hang of all these characters and their stories, but MAN I was hooked when I had gotten a 100 pages in. I wish it was a standalone though, cause I feel like this might be one of those series that goes on for too long... *looks at PLL*
Rylin is probably one of my faves and Avery and her nostalgicness. And uhm. yeah. Just read it It is unique and cool and gossip girly and I DO NOT WANT TO LIVE IN SUCH A HIGH TOWER.

I didn't even really finish this one. Got close to the end and gave up because I realized I just didn't care about any of these characters.

It's not incest, but it's close to it. I got sooo uncomfortable when Avery kept calling Atlas her brother, and then described her in a (romanticly) loving way. EEEKK!! The cover was beautiful though. I would reread it just to look at the cover every time I opened the book.
