The plot was ok, I listened to this on audible, and the narrator didn't seem to have the voice needed for this thriller.

Pretty horrific from the outset, this disturbing tale of a serial killer and abuser leaves you feeling breathless by the end. I managed to listen to this in one sitting.
The main character is brilliant, she is stronger than you can ever imagine and I salute Helen Callaghan for raising the issue of mental health and the stigma surrounding it.
Great twist in the end although it may seem disjointed and there are unanswered questions.

This is one of those books where I can understand why you didn't like it. The mystery isn't all that mysterious. Margot is almost dislikable (in fact she is dislikable). There are two female character of any note, and the other female characters are disliked by one and all, it seems like.
Yet, I couldn't stop reading, so it is one of those books were you know and admit the truth of the faults, but you still don't care anyway. Callaghan gets points for making a lead unlikable, and given the plot, the flaws are not all that surprising.

Fascinating book - I'd love to know how she researched it. Don't want to give any spoilers but the twists and turns were ingenious and the main character was totally engaging.
This was a gripping story even though I guessed 'whodunnit' quite early on and spoiled the twist for myself (though admittedly I was feeling quite smug at having guessed it!). The back story in finding out what had been going on was still good enough to keep me interested, although sometimes it got a bit confusing when I missed a character's changeover between past/present and I was thinking of them in the wrong time frame! This could have been because I was listening to the audio version and it could have been the narrator not indicating the change clearly enough. In the final scenes one of the characters (not saying who to avoid spoilers) did not come across as convincing considering what had happened, but aside from that the ending was satisfying.
I couldn't put it down! I did something I never do, and stayed up until 3:00 am to finish it. The plot was intriguing and the descriptions of Cambridge were wonderful.
