Daddy issues to the maxxxxx.

I understand most peoples poor reviews of this book, but ultimately as somebody who questions her own memories, has issues with parental figures, and had a time of dating a lot of people to find myself this book puts into words the struggles of each of those things. I thought the writing was captivating and I read this in two sittings, I couldn’t put it down. The inner narrative of the protagonist is real and not distracting. Very beautiful, very important, very niche and weird. Just what I like.

3.5 stars rounded up

i took a reallyyy long break between starting and finishing this one because it wasn’t really calling to me after i read the first chapter or so, and even once i finished it i was like hmmm not sure i really got that one, not for me..

BUT!

the more i think about it the more i really get what our main character was going through and talking about. i have a degree in psychology so maybe that sways my enjoyment of this book because it really is an exploration of parent-child relationships and how that can lead to toxic sexual practices in an attempt to control feelings/trauma

this is definitely a book where i couldn’t argue in the slightest if someone hates it because honestly during the whole book i was like wtf is happening and it only really settled with me afterwards
but i’m sure others will love it also! i think i fall somewhere in the middle but i’m giving it a 3.5/4 stars because it did really make me think and revisit my own life and history and mental health and i think that’s quite rare
