I used to be an avid reader of GCL's blog years ago and thus knew how much this topic meant to her and how much she wanted to write about the Jewish expulsion from Spain, and I was interested since I hadn't seen this topic much in fiction. However, it dragged ridiculously and it felt like there was hardly any plot at all apart from the end.

Gail Carson Levine is one of my all time favorite childrens authors. I love her fairytales, but unfortunately this book felt slow to me. I thought I would give this historical fiction book a try, seeing how I love her books, but it didn't particularly hold my interest until about the last 50 or so pages. Her character development is great, and she's an incredible writer, but the plot was a little hard to get in to.
