This book was cute and has a similar charm as the little Paris bookshop, but it takes a bit to get there. The building of characters (there are a lot) takes a number of chapters and even then not all characters that are referenced often are fully introduced. I think it could do without a few to be honest. Overall the charm of George's writing continues to live on and I look forward to her next novel.

2.5 stars. Very slow to start (like half the book slow) with characters that took way too long to warm up.

No rating. I enjoyed the story, but had a really hard time listening to the audiobook. I almost always do something else while listening (work, knit, spin, drive, etc) and all the heavy accents made it difficult to understand. If I was listening and not doing anything else, it would probably be fine, but I kept getting lost because I wasn't concentrating on listening fully. And honestly, you should be able to do something else while listening to an audiobook!

I'm not going to lie to you, when I started reading this book and the opening pages were about Marianne the main character leaping into the Seine in an attempt to end her life and get away from her husband of 35 years I thought I wasn't going to enjoy reading it.
How wrong was I? After leaving the hospital Marianne finds her way to the Breton town of Kerduc which she had seen painted on a coaster in the hospital. She ends up with a job and a place to stay in the restaurant of Ar Mor and soon begins to find herself.
I really enjoyed reading about Marianne and watching her new character to develop. I also enjoyed reading about the lives of the other residents in Kerduc. This was a lovely easy read.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley and Abacus.

Her husband finds her and she is faced with the decision whether to return to her old life in Germany or remain in Kerduc with her new friends and life there.I really enjoyed reading about Marianne and watching her new character to develop. Got to about page 120 and quit. Not bad writing, but the story went on and on about loss and regret without any character making any decisions. Older people might like it.
