Many thanks to Ace Books for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review

Book: *is about vengeful characters who escape from unfinished books*
Me: *stares uneasily at my Google drive filled to the brim with unfinished novels*

I particularly enjoyed the quote at the beginning of each chapter and loved the idea of the book. At time though I just found it all a bit too fast paced!

A library in hell is my new favorite trope

I cannot stop thinking about this book. It was so interesting and so good. I loved it and I loved the concept. I loved the moral riff raff of heaven and hell, I loved the characters, I loved the queerness all of it!

In hell there is a mortal who runs the library of the unwritten books that were never published or finished by regular people or authors. This is our very sassy but stern librarian Claire. In addition to her library and tasks, sometimes those unwritten books get restless about their story being unfinished, and characters can manifest into real looking people and try to escape hell. Clare must track them down even into the mortal world to stop them from talking to their authors and creating irrevocable change.

These characters bleed ink. There are such unique rules for how demons and others can get from hell to earth and other realms.

With the main plot being tracking down hero, a manifested character in the world, there is a very interesting political side plot of who runs heaven and the political animosity between heaven and hell as they compete to find missing pages of the devils Bible.

Loved the found family vibe of their motley crew.

Rep: Claire is pan & loved Beatrice her character, Hero is pan, black mc, other lgbtqia+ sc

It started out very slow, I was not ready or prepared for it and I even considered not finishing. I am very glad I did finish, because I really liked the ending. A very cute book
