When The Stars Lead To You by Ronnie Davis was an incredible read. While I personally felt the relationship’s framework was a bit flat, I really loved the way this book handled so many difficult topics and emotions. Firstly, I LOVED the characters. They were flawed and loveably; diverse and willing to learn to better themselves. Second, I really expected this to be a simple romance. I wasn’t expecting to get hit with a deep and loving novel about boundaries, self-care, and loving someone with depression. As someone who has depression, and loves others who have depression, I found the emotions on both sides extremely relatable and true to life. This book stares the difficulties of depression (from multiple angles) in the face, all the while speaking on other hard issues such as racism, classism, and burnout—while also promoting sex positivity, healthy communication, supportive female friendships/girls-girls (looking at you Rochelle) AND the importance of supporting local animal shelters to adopt. I loved this book far more than I thought I would, even though it turned out to be a much more emotional read that I originally anticipated. This book was a tough one for me, but oh so worth it to see the growth of the characters in healthy, caring, and understanding ways.
