Brilliant plotting with emotionally resonant moments for many of these characters. Great art for the most part and a genuinely interesting and rollicking story. Loved it.

There will be spoilers before I start.  If you were an avid fan of Wandavision definitely read this epic story.  After feeling neglected from her father Magneto, Wanda alters reality and puts various Marvel heroes in different realities.  And the story ends on a down note.  Wanda warps reality even further just by saying no more mutants.  Talk about a harrowing story.  This is definitely a must read for Marvel fans.

Both Marvel and DC have big problems putting out event comics. They often feel too long or too short to tell the story that the creator envisioned. Often, they have to account for so many extraneous characters that it's hard to keep track of what's going on: see Secret Invasion, see Final Crisis, see Flashpoint, see Seige. In House Of M, Bendis finds a way to balance the scope of the story so that we focus on a core group of characters, while also seeing that all the other characters are involved, but they're not required to follow the story.

The problem with House Of M is that it feels too short, which is pretty rare for an event comic. The first two and final two issues are paced perfectly, but the middle four read more like a highlight reel or an outline than a Brian Michael Bendis story. The plot points themselves are marvelous, and perfectly set up the inevitable conclusion to issue seven, and the fallout in issue eight. But without proper breathing room, it's hard to really care for the characters, who are all having to process some major trauma, even for superheroes.

Coipel's art is exquisite on this (though the covers are totally tone-deaf to the interior art). It's like a more restrained Chris Bachalo.

If this were maybe ten issues, I think it would have been perfect.

The Book in which the Scarlet Witch turns the majority of mutants in the world human. I tripped over this on goodreads and I'm glad I did. A good story, though I wish I could figure out which graphic novel would immediately proceed this one (I hadn't really looked to hard yet though). There are A LOT of characters in this one, but they are clearly not picked at random for the most part. And the alternate timeline is pretty darn good. A must read for the Marvel Universe (except that nothing in Marvel is canonical - except Jean Grey coming back to life).

Another brilliant and pivotal Marvel storyline, one which impacts the MU to this day. For me this story was really one about mental health issues in when considering Wanda's situation, racism towards mutants and the responsibility of superheroes to make the call between what is right and what is ethical. Of course there are plenty of familiar faces in the story and a good amount of action to go with the emotional weight of the story. For those not looking for anything too deep, the story can also be enjoyed simply as a hell of a universe altering event that is great fun to get stuck into.
