I absolutely loved this book! What a wonderful debut for author Naina Kumar.
When Meghna's best friend/secret crush suddenly tells her she's engaged and asks her to be his best man, she will do anything to make it seem like she's moved on. She'll even agree to her parents finding her a husband the old matchmaking way. Luckily for Meghna, Karthik is tired of his parents hounding him about marriage and so the two decide to enter into a mutually beneficial fake engagement. These two couldn't be more opposite in nature and yet somehow they find comfort and support in each other, breaking down each other's walls and assumptions and discovering that maybe what they have been faking is better than what they thought they wanted.
I just love these 2 together! This was such a fun and cute read and I really liked the way the concept of arranged marriage was handled. I can't wait to read more from Naina.

This was such an adorable fake dating/fake engagement story.
I like how it was used for Karthik to avoid having to meet new potential suitors for the arranged marriage tradition.
I liked Meghna a lot!! She was smart & determined. As much as she went against the grain, she knew what she DIDNT want (engineering). She was fun and super friggin cute. It was kind of sad that she felt that she was such a disappointment to her parents, that faking an engagement was the answer. I thought she was so fun! The school play was adorable. Her relationship with her ex was just terrible. He was such a basic white guy. Took no time to learn her name, like wtf.
Karthik's goal to never end up like his dad was so heartbreaking. Like he felt he had to just be single because he felt doomed to treat his wife the way his mom was treated. He also avoided certain departments of engineering because they were too close to his dad's field. Ugh, that was just terrible parenting.
I loved how Karthik was able to support Meghna and show her that she is worth more than what people thought. The blind support for her play, the way he gave her all of the credit for her decision to further her education, and how he shone a light on Seth's toxic behavior.
I enjoyed being brought into the culture of these characters. As someone who is not of the culture, the author was able to weave the traditions, food, apparel, etc., into the story in such a way that I did not feel out of place reading this story. I was welcomed into the life of these characters & enjoyed the ride.
Thank you, Naina, for writing uch a beautiful story

I’m giddy 🥰
Maybe not perfect (a touch too long, and one minor character’s decision in particular felt so off to me) but this story checked all of my favorite romance boxes and I so enjoyed it!
