One of the slower entries in the series. Temeraire is a cutie patootie as usual though.

Book 6 in the series finds Temeraire in Laurence in Australia. Being traitors, they are being sent to the prison colony to basically rot away there, but of course it's not that easy. They quickly find themselves entangled in political games, complicated by the arrival of one of their first antagonists.
Yes, Rankin is back.
Content warnings include: colonialism, racism, death, violence, gore, people get eaten alive; mentions of sexual harassment of a teenage girl.
While for the most part I did enjoy the plot, I had to grit my teeth several times. The British Colonialism and the entitlement is unbearable, and I hate that the protagonists are on the opressor's side, even if under vehement protest and widely shunned by their own due to past objections and fighting for what is right. Still, I hated those parts where principles were put against loyalty, and there was no good solution because either way, people would die.

Ah bit of a let down after the first five which were near perfect.
Almost nothing happens - a bit endless like the Outback.

I love this series. I love this installment in particular for the exploration of the indigenous peoples of Australia and their mythology. However, this was perhaps the slowest moving of the series so far, I got a little impatient with it.
